Torah mantles

"...As a deeply committed Jew, Ina is a faithful student of Torah with a voracious appetite to learn and a profound devotion to the traditions and symbols of our faith. An artistic collaboration with Ina is a dialogue in words, feelings, and images, as artist and sponsor join in a journey of spiritual aspiration and discovery . . . "

The focal point of sanctity in the synagogue is the ark housing the sacred Torah scrolls. Each Torah is handwritten on parchment by specially trained scribes and is an identical copy of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible or Pentateuch. The texts are said to have been directly dictated by God — hence, their unique holiness. Torah scrolls and their surroundings have for centuries been dressed in symbolically decorated sumptuous fabrics as prescribed in the book of Exodus.
