"To me, tzedakah means that every coin, act of charity, and good deed accumulates to complete the task of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). Inspired by the biblical text, I was motivated to create a resplendent garment, arms uplifted in a gesture of blessing. As in a coat of mail, where each and every link joins the next to form one large piece of armor, my work is composed of a multitude of threads, sequins, and beads, joined together to express my concept of Tikkun Olam."

Created in two pieces, the cloak is attached with Velcro to the tzedakah container. It is easily removed and freestanding. Coins placed into the neck opening can, therefore, be easily retrieved. Text from Isaiah 59:17 decorates the container and is visible through openings in the cloak.
This piece was made for the
invitational exhibit, "Making Change,
100 Artists Interpret the Tzedakah Box,"
San Francisco Jewish Museum,
November 14, 1999 - January 23, 2000.
